What's Going On Out There!

The new FSLA Overtime rules were slated to go into effect December 1st, 2016. However, on November 22nd, a federal district court issued a preliminary injunction blocking the rule from taking effect. For now, companies can continue operating with the existing guidelines while the court determines if the Department of Labor had the authority to set the new rules.

Regardless of the outcome, the rules could change once President-Elect Trump takes office. While on the campaign trail, he exhibited signs of being in favor of an exemption for small businesses. But as it was not a high priority issue during his campaign, it can be hard to tell how (and when) his administration will weigh in on the issue after he is sworn into office.

Also in the news, employers can breathe a small sigh of relief

You now have an extra 30 days to deliver ACA reporting forms 1095-C and 1095-B to employees. The IRS changed the deadline from January 31, to March 2, 2017. The deadline for filing the paperwork with the IRS remains intact: February 28 for paper submissions and March 31, 2017 for the electronic version. For more information, click here.

Lisa Gerberick is an HRMS software consultant in the Tampa, Florida area. She has a background as an IT support technician and then worked as an HRMS support representative at Sage. Lisa has an associate’s degree in Microcomputer Network Systems and has begun her bachelor’s degree in Technical Management.
